Best restaurants in Polanco

Polanco has historically been the area that has housed the most iconic restaurants in Mexico City and, why not say it, in the country. This has to do with its proximity to other tourist areas of the city, the luxury stores located there, as well as the type of residences and first-class hotels found in this area.

It is no secret that Polanco is the most expensive area to live in Mexico City and therefore has one of the best gastronomic offerings in the country. That is why, below we present 5 restaurant options that, from our point of view, are worth visiting:

Pujol

Address: Tennyson 133

Chef Enrique Olvera created Pujol in 2000 and since then it has been a benchmark for good food with world-class service that earned it two Michelin stars in its most recent publication.

Inspired by local ingredients with a touch of sophistication, most people visit this place for the tasting menu, which starts with a scallop ceviche, moving on to corn in chicatana ant sauce and ending with the place's signature dish, mole madre with creole corn tortillas.

Although the food is completely Mexican, the diners are almost entirely foreigners due to the popularity it has gained and its high prices.

Quintonil

Address: Isaac Newton 55

The word “quintonil” refers to a native herb from Oaxaca and alludes to what you will find in its kitchen. Here a Mexican menu awaits you where local ingredients dominate in dishes that stand out for their originality and impeccable execution.

Chef Jorge Vallejo has been awarded two Michelin stars for taking Mexican cuisine to levels that very few restaurants in the world have reached. Among the most memorable dishes you will find the crab toast, the avocado tartar with escamoles or the oxtail in black recado. The prices are not affordable but it is worth the effort to celebrate a special occasion or for a formal business meal.

Iwashi

Address: Emilio Castelar 204

This place is definitely the best sushi bar in Mexico City. It is not cheap but the quality and freshness of the ingredients are worth it. Iwashi is a small bar that can seat no more than 20 people and in front of you, the chef prepares sashimi, nigiri and other delicacies. The tuna nigiri and the fish omakase are the stars of the place.

There are no reservations so if you arrive at peak time you will have to wait quite a while. It is ideal to go with your partner although there is no after-dinner conversation (the rotation of the places has to be fast to serve those waiting). An experience that is worth it.

Raíz

Address: Schiller 331

From chef Alfredo Chávez, this restaurant evokes the deepest ingredients and flavors of our culture, fusing ingredients dating back to pre-Hispanic times with proteins prepared with modern techniques, such as beef brisket with tomato sauce and short rib with texmole. The wine selection is varied and of high quality.

Comedor Jacinta

Address: Virgilio 40

Chef Edgar Nuñez, recently awarded a Michelin star for his work at Sud 777, brings us a cozy restaurant with traditional Mexican dishes, generous portions and affordable prices. Don't forget to try the scallop toast and the marrow tacos. The tortillas are made to order, which gives a touch of freshness and lots of flavor.
