Ciudad de México - San Jerónimo
Ciudad de México - San Jerónimo

Located in the southern part of CDMX, the San Jerónimo Lídice neighborhood (better known as “San Jerónimo”) is one of the areas that has best maintained its essence throughout the years from the moment it was first founded as one of the original towns of the Magdalena Contreras municipality.

The town of San Jerónimo was a rural area at the beginning of the XX century and was visited by people living in the urban part of CDMX for strolls on the weekends or for longer stays during vacation periods. As the city began to expand with the passing of the years, the area also began to experience a residential boom but without losing its provincial nature of deep-rooted traditions.

Today, San Jerónimo is a neighborhood designed with cobbled streets and homes with heavy Mexican-style architecture where the common denominator is a quiet family life, thus making it one of the favorite areas to live in the southern part of the city.

What to expect…

San Jerónimo is an affluent residential area which is characterized by its tree-lined, narrow, and cobbled streets, making people feel like they are living in a Mexican rural and small town of yesteryear. The quietness that emanates from this area is very much appreciated by the local families, as well as its proximity to other parts of the CDMX, such as Pedregal, Fuentes del Pedregal, San Ángel, Coyoacán or Florida.

Lifestyle

The activities that play out in this neighborhood revolve around family dynamics where parents can easily commute to their place of employment using important avenues like the Anillo Periférico highway or the Supervía Poniente tollway which are close by, and the children attend schools that are either in the area or in neighboring locations. In the afternoons, it is common to meet with friends at one of the local coffee shops or take the kids to their after-school activities.

Residential life comes together in a very particular way with long-standing customs and traditions that are practiced generation after generation by the local residents, such as the September 30th celebration dedicated to the Patron Saint of San Jerónimo or the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

It’s not the right place to…

Go out to bars and restaurants. Because it is entirely a residential area, commercial clusters are few and finding a bar or a restaurant to enjoy in the evening can be a little complicated. San Jerónimo residents normally go to other areas like San Angel or Pedregal looking for this type of activity.

Residential market

The residential market is mostly made up of large homes in horizontal condominiums built with a colonial-Mexican architecture or other more avant-garde styles, like for example the influence asserted by architect Guillermo Cramer on several projects of the area.

You will fall in love with…

Parque Nacional Los Dinamos. At the top of the Magdalena Contreras municipality, you will find this 2,000 plus hectare protected area where you will be able to hike along the foot trails, go horseback or bicycle riding on the paths, ride the zip lines, practice rappel or simply enjoy a nice picnic in the company of friends and family.
